Hey Gamers,
Okay so I wake up this morning and the Dow is down like 600 points because of some crazy stuff happening overseas, and honestly? My first thought was “thank God I don’t do overnight positions.”
Like, seriously. While everyone else is probably having a panic attack looking at their accounts, I’m just sitting here with my coffee going “well, that sucks for them.”
So apparently while we were all sleeping, tensions escalated in the Middle East and now oil is up 8% and the market is freaking out. Anyone who held SPY calls overnight just got absolutely wrecked.
But here’s the thing — this is EXACTLY why I don’t do overnight stuff. Ever.
I mean, how many times do we need to see this happen? You go to bed feeling good about your position and then wake up to some random event that just destroys everything.
While other people were getting gapped down into oblivion, some of us were actually making money this morning. We tested my “unofficial” put zone around 597.77.
It didn’t even check all my boxes for an official trade, but some gamers made money on it anyway, so I’m totally adding it to the model now.
Daniel got a nice scalp and Howard crushed his bear put spread.
Everyone was just… trading. Like normal people. While the market was having a meltdown.
That’s what happens when you don’t gamble with overnight positions.
Look, I get it. Holding overnight feels like you’re being “strategic” or whatever. But honestly? I’d rather make my money when I’m actually awake and can do something about it.
The market’s gonna give you chances during trading hours. It always does. But overnight? You’re just hoping nothing weird happens while you’re unconscious. And weird stuff ALWAYS happens.
Plus I sleep way better knowing my account can’t blow up while I’m dreaming about the Oilers (who deserved that win last night, by the way).
The goal is to still be here next week, you know? Not to catch every single move and risk everything in the process.
Anyway, that’s my PSA for today. Don’t hold overnight. Your future self will thank you.
Olivia
