A run is the scapegoat
- Olivia Voz
SPY and the QQQ both set up an ascending triangle.

That's when a stock keeps hitting the same ceiling while the floor underneath it rises, like it's coiling up to punch through the top. It almost always breaks upward.
This time both of them broke the other way. There's a catalyst, obviously, the pattern triggered.
But it's like a silent catalyst, and it's the first time in my life I've seen one break down like this with nothing behind it. Usually this is right where the news presents itself. This time it's not.
Something ain't normal here. Stranger danger.
A run is the scapegoat.
What I mean is, Iran is the kind of surprise that smacks the tape and hands everybody a reason to point at. There's nothing like that here. No headline, no surprise, no story to pin the selling on. It just broke and the reason never showed up.
These problems take time to reveal themselves, and now I'm even more suspicious.
Let me take you back to late December, when the market hit that concrete wall.
Everybody blamed Iran once it was over. But nobody was even talking about Iran yet when it started selling. The market was already weak. Iran happened after, and that's what got the blame for a move that was already underway.
That's what this feels like to me. The pattern that should have gone up went down instead, the reason didn't show up, and I think they're front-running something here.
I can't tell you what it is yet, and I'm not going to invent one so it sounds clean. This doesn't even normally happen in the summer, which is part of why it's sitting with me the way it is.
None of this is me calling a bear market.
It's a market that got spooked about something, breaking a pattern the wrong way with nothing on the surface to explain it. That's a readable thing. You just have to stop waiting for a headline to give you permission to see it.
There's an expiration date on this. Whatever it is, it shows itself eventually, and I'd rather be watching for it than get told what it was after it already moved.
Rock On,

P.S. I just told you the market's breaking down and nobody can name why. Somebody always knows first, though, and it's usually the people sitting on information the rest of us don't have yet. That's the whole reason Mark and I built Wiretap, to catch those trades in real time while they're happening. We are going live tomorrow at 7 PM ET to show exactly how it works.
