Most traders are obsessed with the wrong thing
- Olivia Voz
Most traders are obsessed with the wrong thing.
They are obsessed with making money. With the win. With watching the account tick up and going, woo, look at it grow.
That, in my book, is weak.
The traders who last are obsessed with something else entirely. It is not the money at all, and once it clicks, it changes everything.
Let me show you what to be obsessed with instead, plus a few things I do to keep my own head straight.
Here is the shift. You do not want to be obsessed with making money. You want to be obsessed with the process of making money.
That sounds like a small change. It is not. When you fall in love with the process, you start treating trading like a business instead of a slot machine.
You understand the mechanics, you trust them, and the money stops being the thing you stare at. It becomes the byproduct.
And this does not stop at trading. Understand a process, respect a process, and you become a winner at almost anything you point yourself at. That is the whole game.
So how do you stay locked on the process when your emotions are screaming at you? These are the things I lean on.
First, do not chase a loss. Never look at your next trade as the one that makes back what you just lost. That is where desperation comes in, and desperation makes an awful trade every single time.
Desperate trades are horrible trades. If you are reaching for the next one to fix the last one, you have already lost the plot.
Second, know when to walk away. Pick a number of losses in a row that you decide is your limit. Maybe it is three, maybe it is five, whatever feels reasonable to you.
The second you hit it, you close the laptop and you are done for the day. Come back fresh tomorrow, because there is always another trade tomorrow.
Third, and you are going to think I am a little crazy for this one. When you are stuck on a chart, show it to someone who knows nothing about trading and ask them what they see.
I do this with my mom.
One day I showed her a chart while I was hunting for buying areas, looking at my levels, doing all my trader stuff.
She looked at it for a second and said it looked like something that went up really nice and steady, and then all of a sudden had a fast and scary drop.
She was right. I was so deep in my own perspective that I could not see what was sitting right in front of me.
Mama Voz cut through all of it in one sentence. When you are that close to something, a fresh pair of eyes will show you what you have been missing.
Fourth, get outside. I know, this one sounds really like Voz, but I take walks. Sometimes for an hour.
When you are glued to your charts and glued to your screen, you get stuck in a vortex where you cannot see anything clearly. Go outside and remember that you are a human who needs sunlight.
You come back with endorphins and a calmer head, and everything you were staring at looks a little different.
None of these are complicated, and that is the point. The process is not some secret indicator or a magic level.
It is the boring discipline of protecting your own head so you can keep showing up and keep executing.
Fall in love with that, and the wins take care of themselves.
Have a wonderful week, my loves. Go take a walk, hug someone, and let the market come to you.
Rock On,
Voz
P.S. P.S. One trade. One week. One target. Mark reads the fund, you copy the trade. That's the entire job. This deal is good till Tuesday at midnight.
