Apple is my kryptonite.
You know what I mean…
The one stock that has been beating up your account for years, the one you keep going back to because you think you finally figured it out. You buy the breakout and it fakes you out, you short the top and it rips through, you wait for it to come back and it doesn't.
Mine is Apple, before Apple it was TTD, and every trader has one.
Most people respond the same way.
They keep doing the same trade and expecting a different result. Same setup, same swing trade, same outcome.
The account bleeds and they tell themselves the next one will be different.
It won't.
But there's a fix.
I learned it the hard way and I taught it to my room today. It works on any stock that has consistently beaten you, and it has nothing to do with finding a better entry or a tighter stop.
The fix is to change the trade type entirely.
If a stock has been your kryptonite, stop swing trading it. Either sell puts on it or day trade it, and those are the only two ways you are allowed to engage with that stock from now on.
Every other approach has been documented as a losing strategy by your own account history.
Selling puts works because the stock that has been beating you up is also the stock you actually want to own at lower prices.
You collect premium while you wait, time decay works in your favor instead of against you, and if the stock drops to your strike you get assigned shares at the price you wanted anyway.
You stop chasing the breakout and start getting paid to be patient.
Day trading works because the kryptonite stock is the one that punishes you over time, and holding it overnight is where the damage happens.
The fakeouts, the gaps against you, the news that drops at 4:01 PM, all of that goes away when you close the position before the bell.
Day trading converts the stock from a long-term enemy into a short-term opportunity, and the math on those trades is completely different.
Apple has cost me more than any other stock in my career.
The moment I switched from trying to swing trade Apple to either selling puts on it or day trading it, the account stopped bleeding.
That is the fix. It is boring and tactical, and it works.
If you have a kryptonite stock and you have been wondering why every other trade in your account works except for that one, this is what you do about it.
