I’m hungover but still crushing it 🍾
- Olivia Voz
Hey Gamers!
Not gonna lie – I’m hungover. Mama Voz and the Ukrainian got lit last night on champagne while decorating for Christmas. We got a seven-foot tree, big red balls, the whole deal.
Watched The Big Chill and I realized again why Jeff Goldblum is perfect – I’ve never wanted to be someone and want someone at the same time like that. (Side note: Is that weird? Whatever.)
But something funny happened when I fired up my charts with last night’s champagne still fuzzing my brain. Sometimes your worst personal days make your best trading days.
Here’s Why Being Hungover Made Me a Better Trader
When you’re not at 100% – when you’re tired, distracted, or just feeling like out of it – you stop trying so hard. You stop overthinking. You just look at what’s ACTUALLY happening.
That morning, Ukraine news had everyone excited. “Oh this is gonna bounce! Geopolitical news! Time to go long!”
Wrong.
My hungover brain cut through all that noise immediately: “This gets faded.”
Why? Because there were too many conflicting forces. Politics vs. data. News vs. technicals. Too many variables pulling in different directions.
When you’re NOT caught up in the hype, when you’re just looking at the charts with fresh (albeit bloodshot) eyes, you see it clearly.

The Trade Everyone Else Missed
While people were debating whether to chase the Ukraine bounce, I laid out my actual plan to the community: Wait for the rip to 664, then short it with cheaper puts.
Not because I’m some genius, but because I’ve traded this type of market before. When too many forces are fighting, news-driven moves get faded. Simple as that.
And you know what happened? We crushed it.
Someone in the community got in on XSP at $1.50, out at $2.70. That’s 80% profit. Meanwhile everyone else was getting chopped up trying to time every move.
The Real Edge Nobody Talks About
Everyone’s obsessed with being “peak performance.” Wake up at 4 AM. Green smoothie. Perfect execution. That Instagram trader lifestyle that makes everyone feel like crap.
But here’s what actually works: Being REAL. Being human. Showing up even when you’re not perfect.
Because sometimes your worst days make your best trades.
The Expensive Options Reality Check
Here’s where most traders blow up – they think volatility spikes mean opportunity. IV through the roof, premiums exploding, everyone scrambling for position.
I told my community: “Options are too expensive. Just monitor, just watch.”
When bid-ask spreads are blown out and premium is inflated, the best trade is often no trade. Let the market come to you instead of chasing expensive entries.
Why This Actually Makes Sense
When you’re hungover (or tired, or distracted), you’re not trying to impress anyone. Your ego isn’t involved. You’re not forcing trades to prove you’re working.
You just wait for the setup. And when it comes? You take it.
That’s it. No drama. No performance anxiety. Just reading what’s actually there.
Community Over Competition
You know what happened while I was being honest about my hangover? My trading community rallied. We helped each other see what we were missing. We focused on patience over panic.
We had ONE loss in November. One.
Not through perfect execution. Through patience, community, and honest assessment of what we were seeing.
The Bottom Line
Next time you show up to the charts feeling like garbage? Good. That might be exactly when you make your best call.
Because you’re not trying to prove anything. You’re just reading what’s actually there.
The charts don’t care about your personal drama. Your best trades often come when you stop trying so hard to be perfect and just respond to what’s happening.
So yeah – your humanity IS your edge. Not despite it.
Rock on,
Voz
